Arnold Schwarzenegger made Conan immortal in his 1982 movie where he portrayed the strong and hefty medieval hero. This movie is not a remake but uses the character of Conan in an entirely different story. Conan (Momoa) is a barbarian whose father was killed in the hands of Khalar Zym, a power-hungry warlord, when he was a child. Conan swears revenge and grows up to become a ruthless hero who fights for the justice of his people. Thousands of years ago a Mask was crafted by some sorcerers that gave the wearer immense dark power. The barbaric clans got together to destroy the mask and disperse its pieces in the far corners of the Earth so that no one may be able to rebuild it. Khalar Zym has managed to accumulate all the pieces and now need to find the descendant of the sorcerers of Achelon in whose veins the pure-blood still runs. Tamara (Nichols) is the last surviving member of this identity who is being hunted down by Khalar Zym. Conan would go to any levels to prevent Khalar from finding her and also aims to avenge his fathers death once and for all. A very typical hero movie is what you would find yourself watching. There is nothing very different, the usual villain who wants global control, a big-bodied invincible hero and the innocent and pretty damsel in distress. The action in the movie is one of its talking points, and although it gets a bit bloody, it still very enjoyable. A decent movie but to be watched only for the action.

Taking off from where the previous movie ended, Captain Morpheus (Fishburne) is asked to attend an emergency meeting called by Captain Niobi (Pinkett Smith) along with all other Zion ship Captains. It is learnt that an army of Sentinels are tunnelling towards Zion which would reach them in 72 hours. Morpheus asks one of the ships to stay out of Zion in case the Oracle tries to communicate with them, which is a direct defiance of order from Commander Lock (Lennix). Lock does not share the opinion that Neo (Reaves) is The One and does not share his belief in The Prophesy and wishes that every possible ship be present within Zion to prepare for attack. Neo is having trouble getting sleep at night and is constantly worried about Trinity (Moss) and dreams of her death inside The Matrix. Neo needs to finally await for the signal from The Oracle so that he may meet her and understand the fate of Zion and the choices that he must make. The movie is actually not a direct continuation to the previous movie and it only now starts the actual story of the film. The first movie was more like a foundation of the plot and the second movie kick-starts the actual plot. Graphics and action is what the movie very heavily focuses on and it tries to use ground-breaking technology to a massive extent to create the entertainment factor that the movie must have. The movie is pure action-entertainment and relies on heavy usage of jargon and complexities as if it is purpose-built to not allow the audience to understand the movie. The movie is a treat for action and sci-fi fans but it needs a lot of attention and focus to actually understand the movie if you really try to.

Every time a movie in this franchisee comes out you always think that this might just be better than the previous movie although there is something at the back of your mind, reminding you not to keep your hopes too high. After Brazil, Hobbs (Johnson) asks Dominic Toretto (Diesel) to help him take down Shaw (Evans) a criminal who is after a computer component that can potentially put the world at risk and shows him a picture of his former girlfriend, Letty (Rodriguez) whom he thought was dead. After being promised a full pardon and a clean slate for him and his team, the group finds themselves in London, England to face their next adventure. Brian O'Conner (Waulker), Roman (Gibson), Han (Sung Kang), Gisele (Gadot), Tej (Bridges) and Riley (Carano) comprise of the team that would assist Hobbs and Toretto in this mission. The producers of the movie aimed at making the franchisee more like a heist movie with cars involved rather focusing purely on street racing. Hence the transition over the years to now have a complete action movie with fast cars. The movie does have enough juice for any car lover to drool and love but you can never compare it to the realism or originality that some of the more epic car scenes in movie history. Yes there are some over-the-top insane stunts, there is more than one unbelievable moment (take for example a never-ending runway, an Alfa Romeo capable of pulling down an army-spec cargo carrier, or jumping across bridges) but these moments seemed to have purposefully put in simply to create the entertainment value. If it is pure automobile action that you lust then the movie delivers, but if it is an action movie with a sensible story and plot that you demand then the movie would not live up to expectations. Enjoy the cars and the girls and forget all the rest.

Whenever Bollywood has tried to explore a new Hollywood concept, most of the times the movie has fallen flat on its face. Be it superheroes, science-fiction, creepy aliens or, in this case, zombies, they never seemed to have seriously worked. Luv (Das), Hardik (Khemu) and Bunny (Tiwari) are three flatmates where Luv and Hardik only want to enjoy life and who also get high on anything they can lay their hands on. When Bunny has to go for an office assignment to Goa, Luv and Hardik decide to hitch-hike along with him. Luna (Gupta) is a random girl who becomes Luv's love interest for the rest of the movie. When Luna invites Luv to an underground rave party organised by the Russians, the three friends decide to go there to have the ultimate time of their lives. Boris (Khan) is ex-Russian mafia who is also the party organiser. The party is for the launch of a new drug which is more lethal than anything you might have come across. What he doesn't know is that the drug has a massive side effect which turns the person into a zombie. Daybreak and the three friends cant seem to find their boat or know where they are. What they do realise is that the island is teeming with zombies, all thirsty for their blood. After rescuing Luna and meeting Boris, the team decides to stick together to get out of this island for good. The movie seems to be heavily inspired from Shaun of the Dead, which is not very surprising considering that most 'innovative' Bollywood movies seem to have roots from outside the industry. The good part is that whenever you come across the Bollywood-ish moments when you think that the movie has screwed things up, the movie happily admits to its own doing. Like Saif playing a Russian with a fake accent to begin with and some parts lifted from other movies. The humour is good and very different from the sexual slapstick that you end up seeing in movies these days. A movie worth the watch, that is if you don't mind the occasional intestine ripping, blood spitting, hand-broken zombie.

Go back in history and Hollywood is littered with action heroes who have made a mark for themselves. The raw, unshaven and tough men have entertained audiences for years and now have beloved fan following. So how do you make the ultimate action movie? Go back in time and get all the big names that you can possibly assemble and ask them to appear in one movie. Forget scripts, forget acting but just remember to get tons of bombs and arsenal. A team of mercenaries formed by collecting elite but retired army men from around the world to carry out operations for anyone who has the money. Headed by Barney Ross (Stallone), the team consists of a blade specialist Lee Christmas (Statham), martial artist Yin Yang (Li), sniper Gunner Jensen (Lundgren), weapons specialist Hale Caesar (Crews) and demolitions expert Toll road (Couture). A man going by the name of Mr. Church (Willis) offers The Expendables, or as the mercenaries like to call themselves, an assignment to go to Vilena, an island off Mexico, to kill General Gaza (Zayas) the dictator of the island. Their rendezvous, Sandra (Itie) was supposed to help them but they get discovered by a team of Americans, loyal to a Mr. Monroe (Roberts). It appears that Monroe has been funding cocaine production on the island which has put the people in poverty and Gaza is now getting tired of Monroe's bullying tactics. The Mercenaries find themselves in a tight spot and hope that they can wriggle out of it, alive. Like I had mentioned, don't bother looking for a plot because this movie does not have one. The only things that it does have is either a gunshot or a blast, every three minutes. The movie is all about random objects blowing up, the lead hero never getting hurt and ridiculously insane stunts being pulled off with too much ease. The movie is a action-lovers delight but is forgettable otherwise.

Based on the true-life story of 4 Jewish brothers who escaped from the Nazi genocide and went on to create a Jewish resistance movement. Tuvia Bielski (Craig) along with his younger brother Zus Bielski (Schreiber), Asael Bielski (Bell) and Aron Bielski (MacKay) escape from their Polish village and attempt at hiding out in the forest. Slowly and steadily, more Jewish survivors find their way to the Bielski brothers and very soon a small community of Jewish survivors come under the leadership of the Bielski partisans. Zus and Tuvia have a difference of opinion where Zus wants to join hands with the Soviets and fight the Germans and not care about the community. Tuvia, on the other hand, wants to help those who cannot fight for themselves and offer them a chance to live. The movie uniquely showcases the brutality of war without focusing too much on violence and blood. Daniel Craig and Schreiber do complete justice to the role, with talking in Polish, having an accent et al. A good war entertainer which does not offer anything exceptional but is still watchable and enjoyable.

The third (and perhaps) final installment of the Iron Man series sees a paradigm shift in the movies concept. It tries to amalgamate elements from Christopher Nolan's Batman movies but yet keep the Iron Man action because of which it became so famous. Tony Stark aka The Iron Man (Downey Jr.) has become so obsessed with being the Iron Man and all his machines and gadgets, that he has forgotten about his personal life, his wife Pepper (Paltrow) and everything else that mattered to him. This starts taking a toll on his health with him being unable to sleep, having nightmares and regular anxiety attacks. Dr. Maya Hansen (Hall) a botanist had developed a technology that would allow plants to regrow and was working on improving the idea. When approached by a crippled scientist, Aldrich Killian (Pearce) Tony turns him down arrogantly and Killian vows revenge. Present day, Killian and Maya have collaborated on the technology, allowing crippled people to heal themselves and become normal once more. The Mandarin (Kingsley) is an extreme Islamic terrorist who is spreading terror within the world and vows to destroy the USA and Iron Man for good. With personal, physical and political problems coming upon Stark at the same time, life is not easy for him and may never be. Like I mentioned earlier, the movie tries to be more than Iron Man and has been more or less successful in doing so. Tony Stark is more realistic and natural and not over the top like in his previous movies. The biggest draw back is gripping and entertaining action, don't get me wrong cause there were more than enough explosions but they hardly seemed to make sense. A great action entertainer that has matured well over the past 2 movies. This might be the last one.

Gotham cities dark knight is back. And when he is back, he is back with a bang. Bruce Wayne aka The Batman (Kilmer) has not one, but two enemies to fight against. Harvey Dent aka Harvey Two-Face (Lee Jones) was previously the district attorney who faced an acid attack that disfigured half of his face for good. He blames The Batman for this and seeks revenge. Dr. Edward Nygma (Carrey) is a scientist who works at Wayne Enterprises who has developed a unique device that can project television images right inside the persons head. Bruce rejects the idea which hurts Nygma's sentiments and he vows to take revenge as The Riddler. Dr. Chase Meridian (Kidman) becomes Batman's love interest and she also finds herself falling for Bruce Wayne, not knowing they both are the same. On one eventful evening at the circus, an acrobat loses his family when Harvey Dent stages an attack. The acrobat, Dick Grayson (O'Donnell) is adopted into Wayne manor and slowly starts blending into Bruce's life. The third installment of the Batman series of movies sees a change of guard at the helm. Val Kilmer being the new Batman, is similarly composed and relaxed as Bruce Wayne but aggressive and tough as The Batman. He fulfills the character far better and seems more suited for the role. Nicole Kidman looks ravishing and she reminds us all of what a magnificent beauty she was in her hay-days. The movie is a decent all round entertainer which has the occasional sprinkling of thrill and excitement. The only biggest let down is the climax, which seemed far too sudden with Dent and Riddler not putting up any fight at all. Maybe something more extended and exciting would have helped in ending the movie at a higher note.

With a star cast like that and with Quentin Tarantino behind the camera, its fair enough to expect some fireworks. Set in 1858 when slavery was rampant across the United States, Dr. King Schultz (Waltz) encounters a group of slavers, from whom he 'purchases' Django (Foxx) and sets him free. Django has been separated from his wife, Broomhilda (Washington) and he has no idea about where she could be. Dr. Schultz reveals that he is indeed a bounty hunter and needs Django's help to hunt for a prized bounty. In return for helping Dr. Schultz through the winter, Django is promised help in locating his wife. Calvin Candie (Di Caprio) is an eccentric millionaire whose favourite pass time is to watch two black men fight till one of them dies. Broomhilda was traced to be a slave of Candie and Schultz and Django hatch a plot to rescue her from there. Tarantino has a typical style to him movie-making and this movie reeks of it. The splashes of subtle humour, the gruesome action and the gripping intense scenes, this movie has it all. Christoph Waltz has played a very similar role to that of Inglorious Basterds but I am not complaining. Di Caprio has put on a fine performance but Jamie Foxx was a tad too composed and withdrawn. The movie is a decent entertainer but lacked the outright fireworks or the intensity to keep you at the edge of your seat. Is not as good as Inglorious and far off from Pulp Fiction.

Movies on famous historical heroes and kings is no new concept. But doing the bold move of mixing various stories with a splash of fiction to create something entirely new is certainly unique. Romulus Agustulus (Brodie-Sangster) is one of the few princes of Rome through which the blood of Julius Caesar still runs. The sword of Julius Caesar is a closely guarded secret whose knowledge very few people are aware of. Ambrosinus (Kingsley) is one such person who guards this secret and whose true identity is unknown to people. Soon after Romulus' coronation as the Prince of Rome, the Goths attack his palace and kill Romulus' father and mother and kidnap the Prince. Aurelius (Firth) is the commander who is designated to protect Romulus at any cost. Upon the kidnapping of Romulus, Aurelius assembles a force of soldiers that survived the attack to hunt down the Goths and rescue Romulus. Mira (Rai Bachchan) a stealth attacker from the East, is sent by one of Rome's allies to assist in this mission. Like I mentioned earlier, one who is vaguely familiar with Roman history would immediately recognize the mixture of various legendary stories that are rolled into one. A very average movie who although has a very strong cast, fails to impress.

When computer gaming starts becoming more and more life-like, what happens next? Taking realism to the next level, Ken Castle (Hall) is a multi-millionaire who developed a realistic game known as 'Society' where users can create real humans. Humans are administered Nanex, a cell which takes over the brain and makes in into a robot that accepts commands from another user elsewhere. An extension of this concept is 'Slayer' a game where convicts can fight in real battle in a bid to gain freedom. John Tillman aka Kable (Butler) is Slayer's most accomplished player and is controlled by a young boy, Simon (Lerman). Castle's program has taken over the world and at the pace at which it is growing, the entire world would come under his command. Kable, meanwhile, has a story in the past and has some scores to settle for which he is desperate to get out. If it is a god action movie your looking for which has a sensible story to narrate, then this movie would do. It is a pretty good watch all except the last 20 minutes. The ending is horrible, uneventful and quite bland. It seemed as if everyone was in a hurry to pack it up and did a quick fix end to thing. Had they given a little bit of thought in making the climax more interesting, the movie could be a decent entertainer.

Whenever the words, 'Jason Statham' appear in the cast of any movie, you know exactly what to expect; action and loads of it. Police Detective, Quentin Connors (Statham) has been suspended for killing a kidnapper and an innocent victim. When a bank robbery takes place and all the employees and customers of the bank taken hostage, the robbers ask for Quentin Connors to do the negotiation. Connors finds his suspension revoked and back in the line of duty. Lorenz (Snipes) the man who headed the robbery, escaped and the police need to get cracking on apprehending the suspects and try and understand why the robbers didn't actually rob anything from the bank. Connors' partner, the young Shane Dekker (Phillepe) realises that Lorenz is inspired from the Chaos Theory and is following patterns from it. The movie has a good mystery which keeps you entertained for quite a bit. The story develops well and you keep expecting a good, sensible climax to finish off the movie on a high note. Sadly though, the movie does end on a high climax but it is extremely unrealistic. Many pieces just don't make sense and the entire crime seems very outlandish and extremely bizarre to actually pull off. Had the crime be more logical and realistic, the movie would be very entertaining to watch, but now it is just plain stupid.

An agent from the Chinese Intelligence has been loaned to the CIA for a secret operation. Bob Ho (Chan) is in pursuit of a Russian criminal, Anton Poldark (Scheving) who is trying to get his hands on a top secret chemical that destroys oil. Bob has taken a liking for his next door neighbor, Gillian (Valletta) but her 3 kids hate him. Gillian refuses to marry him unless her children accept him, which they don't seem to be working towards. When Gillian needs to leave town for a family emergency, Bob takes over her house in an attempt to make the kids like him. However, babysitting is not as easy and simple as Bob expected it to be and he has his work cut out. One expects Chan to deliver to a certain extent when he is starring in a movie. The mix of action and comedy is what makes his movies entertaining. This movie did have a decent amount of Jackie Chan action, but was missing the comedy. The movie is a big drag and comes across as the usual family drama where there is a happy ending for everyone.

During the end of the 19th century, large American corporations wanted a share of undeveloped Mexico. One such American land lord, Tyler Jackson (Yoakam) had his eyes on the Mexican countryside and wanted to forge a deal for their development. Maria Alvarez (Cruz) the daughter of a small-time farmer, witnessed her fathers murder by Jackson and his men. Sara Sandoval (Hayek) the daughter of a Mexican landlord and a well-educated girl from Europe, saw her father being murdered by Jackson in order to take over all his land deals. Both the girls decide to unite and rob all the banks that are held by Jackson and use that money to help the people of Mexico. The movies story line has defined the movies entertainment value; nothing. The movie in itself is quite rubbish and comes across as the casual entertainer. By showing two Latina beauties doing action scenes with deep cleavages, the movie tries to gain audience attention but fails miserably. A very average watch.

What if the world that we live in isn't true? What if you were told that what see today is all artificial and not true? The Matrix is a computer software that the machines developed when they started taking over planet Earth. Humans could no longer walk free but were cultivated and grown like plants and the energy of the human body is what kept the machines running. What we see today is an artificial world, something like a dream where nothing is true and everything is just another computer program. Mr. Thomas Anderson aka Neo (Reaves) is a computer programmer and a hacker by hobby. He learns of the existence of The Matrix but does not know what it is. A group of people have managed to free themselves from The Matrix and live in the real world. Trinity (Moss) tells Neo that if he wants to learn what The Matrix is, he should meet their leader, Morpheus (Fishburne). Morpheus thinks that Neo is The One, the person that would get rid of the machines and liberate the human race once more. He needs to convince Neo to join them, train them and find out if he truly is The One. The movie is remarkable for ushering a new era of special effects. The infamous 'Bullet Time' effect has been introduced in movie making by this very movie. The movie is an excellence of cinema and draws the line between the movies of the '90's and the movies of the new millennium. The only drawback in the movie was the slightly ridiculous and over-the-top action which is actually something that most people would enjoy. A spectacular watch and something that you can enjoy over and over again.

Since we have all heard and read about hijacks, lets learn a bit about this movie called Carjacked. Lorraine Burton (Bello) is a recent divorcee who is fighting for her divorce and is utterly broke. Whilst driving around one night with her son in the car, Roy (Dorff) sneaks into a car at a fuel station and orders her to drive his way. Roy is a bank robber who needs to get to a rendezvous point with the rest of his fellow robbers. Over the course of the journey, Lorraine and Roy start getting to know each other better and Roy reveals to her that they have to driver for quite some time. Although Roy starts trusting Lorraine, she tries multiple times in getting help or escaping from Roy. The movie has a very simple and straight-forward plot line with no parallel plots or any twists or turns. The movie is a drag and quite a bore in most places. The unending conversations between Lorraine and Roy is a nightmare to watch. The only saving grace is the last half an hour which has the final escape scenes which is sprinkled with some decent action. A highly avoidable watch and cannot be recommended for any aspect whatsoever.

A true-blue cop movie from the '60s, Lt. Frank Bulitt (McQueen) is assigned the task to protect a Johnny Ross, a key witness in an upcoming trial on organised crime. Ross arrives on a Friday with the hearing scheduled on Monday. Since Ross is a runaway from the crime syndicate, Walter Chalmers (Vaughn) wants Ross alive by Monday and has entrusted Bulitt this task. Ross gets murdered in his hotel room on Saturday night which does not make Chalmers very happy. Bulitt starts investigating the murders to understand who exactly is Ross, why does Chalmers want him so badly and why was he murdered. The first thing that stands out in the movie is epic car chase. The 10-minute chase has gone down in history as the best car chase ever in any movie made. The sole reason why this movie became a huge success is solely down to Steve McQueen in a Ford Mustang GT Fastback, chasing 2 bad guys in a Dodge Charger. The movie not only made McQueen famous but also made the Mustang a very desirable car. The murder mystery is the second best thing about the movie which comes across as extremely real and very life-like. In fact, most of the movie is extremely realistic which is why this is loved so much. You don't have loud background scores screaming in the background during any of the action sequences. Hence, you feel as if you are actually part of the scene and can hear every engine note, tyre screech, footstep and gunshot that is being fired. An exceptional movie for a typical police mystery but at the same time, not something where you should expect too much.

John McClane (Willis) wants to find his long-lost son, Jack (Courtney). John McClane decides to travel to Russia to locate Jack. Jack McClane is an under-cover CIA agent who is between a mission. Jack McClane needs to ensure the safety of Yuri Komarov (Koch) and obtain 'a file' from him. John McClane finds Jack and insists on having a family discussion whilst the Russians are chasing Jack down. John McClane can survive a truck accident which rolls over almost 6 times over some 7 cars. John McClane can drive an SUV over a bridge and over cars that are stuck in traffic. John McClane's 2-tonne SUV can push a 10-tonne heavily-armoured truck off the road. John McClane can survive ANOTHER car accident where the car rolls and crashes multiple times. John McClane does all this so that he can have a family discussion with his son whilst he is on a top secret mission. This movie has now stopped making any sense. John McClane can dodge bullets. John McClane can run through a building whilst a helicopter is tearing the building apart and not get hit. John McClane can jump off a building without a single injury. John McClane can drive for almost 1,000 kms from Moscow to Chernobyly in only 2 hours. John McClane can walk inside the radioactive Chernobyl facility without wearing protective gear. John McClane is on a helicopter that is violently spinning out of control and gets thrown out of it, only to fly for almost 30 feet before smashing into glass and crashing inside a building. John McClane lives. Yuri's daughter is stupid enough to fly a helicopter inside a burning building, just so that she could kill John and Jack and actually thought that she would survive. John McClane can jump off that very same building, crash through burning wood, shatter glass and come out alive. Jack McClane can do all of the above too and maybe more. John McClane is a super-awesome, invincible hero. The movie title and poster text make no sense at all. This movie is so stupid. There will be another Die Hard.

An alien ship crash lands onto Earth with an alien emerging who looks exactly like humans. Mankind is still in the iron age and Kainan (Caviezel), the alien, finds himself in Norwegian lands amongst Vikings. Kainan was carrying with him a deadly alien beast called the Moorwen which escapes from his ship when they land. Determined to get his prisoner back, Kainan goes on a hunt but is captured by Wulfric (Huston) a Viking prince and is escorted to King Hrothgar. Moorwen has already started destroying villages and eating humans and the Vikings are unaware of the power of the beast. Kainan confesses his true identity to the Vikings and offers help to capture the beast and bring peace once more to their lands. The movie is a very typical story of a hero who slays a beast and that of aliens on Earth. It offers nothing exceptional whatsoever and has probably one of the most cliched stories and climax that can be possible. If this very specific genre interests you, then only must one take the chances of watching this movie. Otherwise, this is a complete washout.

Bollywood would never die without giving up on trying to make a typical Hollywood movie. What does a typical Hollywood movie comprise of? Fast cars, hot girls, loads of action, high-tech gadgets and a plot that has little relevance or sense. Race 2 has effectively done each and every one of those in the worst possible manner ever. When you have playing cards that have 'thermal sensors that tell reflect on Deepika's sunglasses what cards her opponent has' and sports cars with 'parachutes that automatically trigger if it senses a freefall', you immediately know what an amazing movie this is going to be. The original movie had cars involved in it to a higher degree but it seems that in the second movie the makers were far too involved in showing Deepika and Jacquelines body to bother about the vehicles. Armaan Malik (Abraham) is a million-dollar tycoon who has made his money doing shady dealings. Ranvir Singh (Khan) is a con artist who has an idea for which he needs funding and who better to approach than Armaan himself. Armaan buys the idea not knowing that Ravnir's main motive is to dis-repute him and take revenge from him for murdering his girlfriend. The movie is a joke for the word 'movie' and is a disgraceful attempt at trying to be cool. From gadgets that are simply unimaginative and outlandish, gripping action that was missing throughout and a plot line that was far too twisted to be realistic, the movie is a complete wash. The only reason to watch would be the long-legged women but I am sure that cannot be the sole incentive to ever watch this movie. Avoid!
